Aggresuko!

What’s the Story?

I came across an anime called Aggretsuko! and fell in love from the very first episode. The show follows a millennial woman navigating her mid-20s, freshly excited about landing a 9-to-5 job—only to discover that the corporate world is a beast of its own. Her boss is a sneaky, egotistical nightmare who belittles her daily. She comes home late, binge eats, watches TV, and then wakes up just to do it all over again.

She’s always chasing something—meaning, connection, maybe even freedom—but has little time for hobbies, and her love life is… well, complicated. I deeply related to her, especially during a time when I was stuck in a soul-draining job that made me feel just like her. Around that same time, I had just started painting again. I didn’t have a clear style yet, but I was obsessed with Aggretsuko, so I painted her onto a canvas.

I haven’t watched the show in years—but now I find myself wondering: what is she up to now? Did she ever find peace? Joy? Purpose? In some ways, I think I painted her as a mirror for where I was… and maybe where I hoped to go.

I know I did (Thank God)
